Teaching is a passion of mine and it’s something I’ve been doing now to earn passive income online for over 5 years. I know there are a lot of people out there looking to make predictable passive income online from scratch and even though course marketplaces like Udemy and Skillshare have been around now for several years, it blows my mind that more people don’t know about them. Because while these platforms may not make you a fortune, if you just follow a few simple steps (even if you’re not particularly great at marketing or teaching) you WILL make money, it’s virtually guaranteed.
So, I’m going to share my simple process, and I promise you if you actually take action on what I share, you will make your first dollar.
But, first, here’s some proof…
Ok, so let’s just dive right into this, as my process is really pretty simple.
This tutorial is going to be very basic and I’m just going to be covering my process at a high level, I’m not going to nit picky about every single specific step.
First, you’re going to need to create a FREE Skillshare account…now, once you make your first dollar I would recommend upgrading to a Premium account. It’s cheap, and it supports the community, so just do it.
Next, you’re going to need some basic tools and equipment for creating videos. This is what I recommend…
Once you’ve got your account setup and your equipment, you need to figure out something to teach and share. If you have your own ideas, great. If you don’t you can either browse YouTube, bookstores, magazines, or subscribe to a site like Lynda.com, learn something, and then literally just teach others what you just learned. It’s that simple.
I bullet point what I’m going to teach and break it up into different sections. Then I record the steps using ScreenFlow (most of my stuff is showing people internet marketing tips). Then I just chop out my “ahs” and “umms” in ScreenFlow, I don’t use anything of it’s other fancy features, other than maybe sometimes canceling out some noise if my audio is a bit rough. But that’s it. Then I export the video as a HD video.
Then I upload the sections of my course to Skillshare.
Now, ideally you want to have an introduction course (because FREE Skillshare members can see the first lecture for free, so you want to entice them to want to become a Premium member). And then I like to create an attractive cover image using a free online tool called Canva.
Here’s where to add a custom cover image in your Skillshare account…
Then you’ll write a description and create and idea for a project based on what you’re teaching. Select some relevant categories and tags, and simply publish it.
Now, without any students you’re not going to make any money, so I like to give each of my courses a little boost with some social proof.
I first post them to Bestblackhatforum in the Skillshare section.
And then I also post them to Skillshare coupon code groups on Facebook.
Between these two sets of resources I can usually anticipate at least 100 students in my course after I publish it.
So, that’s really all there is to my process. If you publish a handful of courses, which should only take you about a month (they only need to be a minimum of at least 10 minutes), you should expect at least about $100 per month in passive recurring income. And if you want to scale up and make more, all you have to do is rinse, lather and repeat.
